Rental prices per m2 in Paris

Paris is surely the most sought after French city. Every year, thousands of people want to move there to start their professional life, to do an internship or a university semester. Attractive, the Parisian real estate market is probably the most tense in France. The supply of apartments is insufficient compared to the demand. Paris is a very popular city, both for French and foreigners. As a result, real estate prices are high. Paris is a very expensive city, and this is reflected in the price of housing. Despite a recent drop in rent prices, they sometimes reach €30 per square meter, which is difficult for many people to afford. There are many applications for a single apartment, and landlords can be very selective in their choice of tenant. They often require strong financial guarantees, with high salaries and guarantors, which can make access to housing difficult.

Paris is a highly regulated city when it comes to housing. Landlords must meet strict safety and sanitation standards, which can make it difficult to rent out certain properties. Tenants also have important rights and remedies in the event of a dispute with their landlord, which can discourage some landlords from renting out their property. Rent controls have been put in place by several laws. Landlords must respect a reference rent.

What to rent in Paris for a lower than €1000 budget per month?

The real estate market in Paris is very competitive, and it can be difficult to find an apartment that meets your criteria and budget. Paris is the most expensive city in France in terms of access to housing. With a budget of less than €1000 per month, you will probably have a hard time finding a decent primary residence in the most sought after areas of Paris. However, it is possible to find cheaper housing options. If you like to live with other people, consider living in a shared apartment, as it meets all of these criteria.

As an alternative to sharing, try coliving!

Coliving is a concept of community housing that allows several people to live together under the same roof. The common rooms in coliving are designed to promote social interaction and community between residents (also called “colivers”). In coliving, you will have your own private space: a room of minimum 9 m2. Your very own cocoon. Coliving apartments are rented furnished and equipped, which makes it easier for you and the other tenants to settle in. Rents can be slightly higher than those of a traditional shared apartment, but they often include the charges and services offered by the coliving space. This makes it an affordable housing offer because everything is included in the lease contract: home insurance, internet, gas, water and electricity for the apartment.

Finally, coliving does not stop there. This concept offers concierge services to its tenants (food delivery for your first week in the apartment, shuttle to take you to your new home, etc.), coworking spaces or community events such as after work parties to encourage interaction between residents.

Coliving has become an increasingly popular option, especially in large cities where the cost of living is high and people are looking for ways to reduce their housing costs while benefiting from a stimulating social environment.
