A <\/span>UNESCO World Heritage site<\/b>, it was once the tallest <\/span>building <\/b>in the <\/span>world<\/b>. Yes, <\/span>Strasbourg Cathedral <\/b>has since been surpassed by Rouen <\/span>Cathedral<\/b>, the Empire State <\/span>Building <\/b>in New York, and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.             The European Quarter<\/span><\/h3>

            You might not know it, but there is indeed a <\/span>European <\/b>Quarter. Well, not really, but it’s kind of its nickname. Why? Because it’s in the <\/span>Orangerie<\/b>, Robertsau, and Wacken <\/span>districts <\/b>that some of the most significant <\/span>European <\/b>political <\/span>institutions <\/b>are <\/span>located<\/b>. Here, laws are voted on in the <\/span>European Parliament<\/b>. This <\/span>district <\/b>also <\/span>houses <\/b>the <\/span>Council <\/b>of <\/span>Europe<\/b>, and the <\/span>Place <\/b>de l’<\/span>Europe<\/b>, a villa <\/span>offering <\/b>various animations and information <\/span>throughout <\/b>the year. It is also here that the <\/span>headquarters <\/b>of the Franco-<\/span>German<\/b> channel Arte is <\/span>located<\/b>. You know, the one that broadcasts all kinds of super interesting documentaries (no joke, we’re fans here). It’s no wonder <\/span>Strasbourg <\/b>is nicknamed the “Home of <\/span>Europe<\/b>.”<\/span><\/p>

            The Rohan Palace<\/span><\/h3>

            Built <\/b>in the <\/span>first <\/b>half of the XVIII <\/span>century<\/b>, this episcopal <\/span>palace <\/b>is reminiscent of the <\/span>grandest <\/b>Parisian <\/span>hotels<\/b>. A <\/span>historic monument<\/b>, it has <\/span>seen <\/b>all the greats of the country, including the <\/span>Rohan family <\/b>to whom it belonged. It also served as a lecture hall for the Imperial Military Medical School of <\/span>Strasbourg<\/b>, between 1794 and 1870. It is <\/span>located <\/b>in the <\/span>city center <\/b>and is therefore very easily accessible from other <\/span>tourist points <\/b>of the <\/span>city<\/b>. Today, it <\/span>houses <\/b>3 <\/span>museums<\/b>: the <\/span>Museum <\/b>of <\/span>Decorative Arts<\/b>, the <\/span>Museum <\/b>of Archaeology, and the <\/span>Museum <\/b>of <\/span>Fine Arts<\/b>. It has nevertheless retained all its <\/span>former <\/b>prestige. You can <\/span>visit <\/b>the 6 <\/span>large <\/b>apartments it contains, including the king’s bedroom, and the 3 small apartments where Napoleon’s bedroom is <\/span>located<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>

            Alsatian gastronomy<\/span><\/h3>

            At Colivys, it’s impossible for us to <\/span>visit <\/b>a <\/span>city <\/b>without tasting its cuisine. <\/span>Strasbourg <\/b>is full of small <\/span>restaurants <\/b>and <\/span>winstubs offering <\/b>all the <\/span>Alsatian <\/b>specialties. Among them is the <\/span>Maison Kammerzell<\/b>. This <\/span>typically Alsatian <\/b>four-story <\/span>institution located next to<\/b> the <\/span>cathedral <\/b>is one of the <\/span>city<\/b>‘s <\/span>best <\/b>and oldest breweries. Its facade and <\/span>interior <\/b>showcase the splendor of <\/span>Strasbourg<\/b>. Here, you can savor local dishes such as cervelas (sausage), crayfish, and various <\/span>sauerkrauts<\/b>. Another must-<\/span>visit<\/b> spot is the <\/span>Maison <\/b>des <\/span>Tanneurs<\/b>. <\/span>Formerly <\/b>a <\/span>building <\/b>used as a <\/span>tannery<\/b>, this <\/span>house <\/b>has become a gastronomic <\/span>institution <\/b>in <\/span>Strasbourg<\/b>. <\/span>Located <\/b>in the <\/span>Petite France district<\/b>, the <\/span>Maison <\/b>de la <\/span>Choucroute <\/b>(<\/span>Sauerkraut<\/b> House<\/b>) <\/span>offers <\/b>you to taste a classic or <\/span>fish sauerkraut<\/b>, foie gras, pike-perch fillet, or even iced kougelhopf. Much of <\/span>Strasbourg<\/b>‘s <\/span>best <\/b>is found in this <\/span>place <\/b>steeped in <\/span>history<\/b>. Another <\/span>restaurant <\/b>to dine at is the <\/span>Vieux Strasbourg<\/b>. It’s a quaint <\/span>restaurant <\/b>not far from the <\/span>cathedral<\/b>. With its authentic facade and <\/span>interior<\/b>, you’ll <\/span>experience <\/b>the essence of old taverns, right down to the <\/span>narrow <\/b>dining room. The menu is short, and the cuisine is <\/span>typical <\/b>and somewhat <\/span>different <\/b>from what you’ll find elsewhere. Remember to <\/span>book <\/b>if you want to <\/span>go<\/b>. Whether you’re alone or in a <\/span>group<\/b>, there’s no guarantee of infinite space. Finally, head to the Baeckeoffe d’<\/span>Alsace<\/b>, a <\/span>restaurant located <\/b>just opposite <\/span>Petite <\/b>France. With its kitschy ambiance reminiscent of an <\/span>Alsatian <\/b>chalet, you can taste all the <\/span>Alsatian <\/b>traditions: <\/span>tarte flamb\u00e9e<\/b>, baeckeoffe, spaetzle (<\/span>typical<\/b> small pasta), Munster cheese, or apfelstrudel.<\/span><\/p>

You might not know this, but <\/span>Alsace <\/b>and Lorraine were <\/span>German <\/b>for several years until the Treaty of Versailles confirmed their full reintegration into <\/span>France <\/b>in 1919. However, its past is still very visible, especially in the <\/span>Neustadt district<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

            With its wide roads and imposing <\/span>buildings <\/b>featuring Germanic <\/span>architecture<\/b>, <\/span>Neustadt <\/b>is one of <\/span>Strasbourg<\/b>‘s most impressive <\/span>districts<\/b>. <\/span>Built <\/b>in the 1880s, it showcases the power of this empire. Currently the political and administrative <\/span>center <\/b>of <\/span>Strasbourg<\/b>, here you’ll find the national theater, the <\/span>library<\/b>, and the <\/span>city<\/b>‘s university. Impressive and prestigious <\/span>buildings<\/b>. It’s in the latter that you’ll find an urban botanical <\/span>garden built <\/b>on a <\/span>site <\/b>of more than 3.5 <\/span>hectares<\/b>. This <\/span>environment <\/b>is home to nearly 5,000 <\/span>plant species<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

            Bridging old and new <\/span>Strasbourg<\/b>, the <\/span>Neustadt district <\/b>also <\/span>hosts <\/b>the <\/span>Palais <\/b>du <\/span>Rhin<\/b>. A <\/span>former <\/b>imperial <\/span>palace<\/b>, this <\/span>historic monument<\/b>, reminiscent of Berlin’s <\/span>buildings<\/b>, is <\/span>located <\/b>in the <\/span>heart <\/b>of a landscaped <\/span>garden<\/b>. Also a <\/span>historic monument<\/b>, it features beautiful French <\/span>gardens<\/b>, <\/span>large <\/b>lawns, playgrounds, and <\/span>numerous statues <\/b>representing great <\/span>names <\/b>and figures from <\/span>Strasbourg<\/b>. In a <\/span>different style<\/b>, head to the <\/span>Tomi Ungerer<\/b> Museum<\/b>. <\/span>Located <\/b>in the Villa Greiner, a XIX-<\/span>century<\/b> mansion, the <\/span>museum <\/b>is also known as the International Illustration <\/span>Center<\/b>. Its 700 m\u00b2 <\/span>house <\/b>a collection of more than 14,000 drawings made by the namesake <\/span>artist<\/b>, one of the greatest illustrators of the past fifty years. From advertising illustrations and <\/span>children<\/b>‘s drawings to a more satirical universe: his eclectic <\/span>works <\/b>from the XX <\/span>century <\/b>are displayed on 3 levels.<\/span><\/p>\n

            Back in the <\/span>city<\/b> center<\/b>, in the <\/span>Grande \u00cele district<\/b>, our next must-<\/span>see<\/b> attraction is just steps away from the <\/span>cathedral <\/b>square. When the weather is <\/span>nice<\/b>, it’s always <\/span>pleasant <\/b>to take a <\/span>stroll <\/b>on the <\/span>Ill<\/b>. You can <\/span>admire <\/b>the <\/span>Vauban dam<\/b>, <\/span>built <\/b>upstream of the <\/span>covered bridges <\/b>and their peninsula, to defend <\/span>Strasbourg <\/b>in anticipation of potential future <\/span>wars <\/b>and protect what the <\/span>city <\/b>has. A <\/span>historic monument<\/b>, this <\/span>dam<\/b>, also known as “Grand Lock,” connects the Quartier Blanc square and the Jean-Arp square where the <\/span>Museum <\/b>of <\/span>Modern <\/b>and <\/span>Contemporary Art <\/b>is <\/span>located<\/b>.             The Wine Route<\/span><\/h3>\n

            Forget <\/span>Bordeaux<\/b>. <\/span>Alsace <\/b>has its <\/span>wines <\/b>too! Starting west of <\/span>Strasbourg<\/b>, in the town of Marlenheim, the <\/span>wine route <\/b>features <\/span>vineyards <\/b>as far as the eye can <\/span>see<\/b>. A landscape like you’ve never <\/span>seen <\/b>before that extends to the town of Thann, near Mulhouse.             The Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle<\/span><\/h3>\n
