In order to regulate the market, a law has been in place since July 15th, 2022, that caps rental prices. It sets a ceiling based on the type of property and the district in which it is located.
The average rental price in Lyon is €17/m². However, assuming an average living area of 30 m², the average rent in Lyon would be over 500 euros for a two-rooms apartment. Even though this price is more affordable, the rent is not accessible to a large part of the population, including students in Lyon.
